Adopted Dogs - Fall 2017

Jackson - A seven-year old Chihuahua/ Dachshund in CT

Welcome to Italian Greyhound Place, Jackson!

Jackson - A seven-year old Chihuahua / Dachshund in CTJackson is in the care of Italian Greyhound Place and is being fostered in CT.  Jackson had a veterinarian appointment after entering the care of Italain Greyhound Place and, as his foster referred to it, his "teeth beautified" this past week. Two teeth fell out during the procedure and eight were extracted - the remaining ones are nice and white now though! This little guy is very fearful so this veterinarian visit was especially scary - he was super happy to see his foster mom after his dental  Thanks to Jackson's foster for the love and care being given to him! (4/22/17)
The information below will be updated/modified as Jackson's foster gets to know him more. Note - Jackson's information (below) was modified on 6/11/17.
Jackson is a sweet, fearful, but not at all aggressive, seven-year old, Chihuahua / Dachshund in the care of Italian Greyhound Place. This little one has been making progress with his foster, but is, overall, a fearful dog – of new people; unexpected, loud noises (not thunder storms, though!), and new objects in the environment. His foster indicated that he is “petrified of so many things.”
Jackson tends to be afraid of everyone except the person he bonds to, in this case, his foster mom. However, if his foster is not around, Jackson has decided that it is okay to sit with his foster dad, at least for a half-hour or so. When scared, Jackson will zoom to what his foster refers to as his “safe spots,” chosen by Jackson, in the house.

Originally fearful of his leash, Jackson now happily steps into his Web Master harness andJackson - A seven-year old Chihuahua / Dachshund in CTenjoys walks with his foster – he does not want to walk with anyone else yet, but his foster is going to work with him on that by having her adult daughter walk with them. His foster indicated that, “He just started to come to me when I call him and that's in the house under optimum conditions.” She is working on teaching him, “sit.” Jackson’s foster has discovered a treat that he enjoys (he was not treat motivated), so, in addition to praise, treats can be used with him. If Jackson becomes scared while eating a meal – he will run from the bowl and not return to it (his adopter should provide a quiet eating area for him and possibly, as his foster tends to do, stay with him while he eats).

A family member’s dog visits the house regularly and Jackson has been fine with him – basically ignores him, but will sit on him and share a blanket! On walks, Jackson ignores other dogs – he will stand still if they greet him, but does not sniff or engage with them.

This guy does not like to be left alone. His foster is retired and either takes him with her or a family member stays with him. He has been crated briefly, but tends to cry. His foster has left Jackson - A seven-year old Chihuahua / Dachshund in CTthe house with Jackson loose, “peaked in” to check on what he was doing, and he was in one of his safe spots. It is possible that an adopter could crate train him or provide a safe place, un-crated for him to stay, but an adopter who is retired or works from home is desired for Jackson. (Someone was also home in his previous environment).

Jackson loves to wear clothes, have his nails trimmed, and to have baths – not afraid of any of that! He is housetrained.

If you are basically home; willing to work with, and accommodate, a fearful dog; and want an adorable, canine companion to bond closely with, please contact Italian Greyhound Place regarding Jackson. (Information listed 6/11/17)

Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have rescued, fostered, and rehomed Jackson - he went directly to his foster, was lovingly cared for, and, even better, has been in his forever home since being rescued. Jackson is officially Jaxi Anderson!!! He has two adult humans (his owner is retired), a fenced yard, and, most important of all, lots and lots of love. Jaxi was adopted on 11/2/17!
