Fall 2011

Spinx- An adult Italian Greyhound in GASpinx - An adult Italian Greyhound in SC

Not much is known about Spinx, other than that he was rescued from a puppymill along with some other dogs and brought, with them, to a shelter in South Carolina; he was the only Italian Greyhound. Spinx had been there for approximately one month when Italian Greyhound Place became aware of his predicament and contacted the shelter.

Italian Greyhound Place is very pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Spinx to a wonderful woman in Georgia who traveled six hours each way to adopt him. Spinx is enjoying his human companion, his new Italian Greyhound companion (who immediately welcomed him), and the love and care that he is receiving. Italian Greyhound Place thanks the receptive shelter director who made this possible. Spinx was adopted on 12/17/11!

Bubba - A four-year old Biggy Iggy in NYBubba - A four-year old Biggy Iggy in NY

Bubba is an absolutely delightful dog. His owner intended to have him forever, but due to a divorce and a pending move to an apartment, Bubba is in need of a new home. Bubba is four-years old and weighs twenty-six pounds - as a puppy, he grew and grew, towering over other Italian Greyhounds. His size might surprize you, but the typical Italian Greyhound characteristics are there. Bubba is very affectionate and loves being in his person's lap or cuddled next to them; is shy and timid when meeting new people in new environments; is not fond of cold, wet, windy weather; and enjoys chasing squirrels and rabbits in his current yard. This handsome guy is housetrained - uses a litterbox and goes outside in his yard; is great with other dogs and children (cats are an unknown); is crate trained, and is good on leash - doesn't pull. Bubba's owner indicated that "Bubba has Baggage:" Bubba has an underactive thyroid (hypothroidism) and is on medication that is given twice daily (cost is approximately $8/month). He also has some scarring on his corneas  from an eye infection, but he does not demonstrate any vision loss. With proper treatment (regularly scheduled vet vists to ensure proper medication dosage), hypothyroid dogs can maintain good health, be basically symptom-free, and live a normal live span. If  you would like to welcome a charming, biggy iggy with an expressive face into your home, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. Additional photos here. (Listed 10/23/11)

Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Bubba to a dog-experienced man in NY who was looking for a canine companion. Bubba was adopted on 12/15/11!

Brooklyn- A twelve week old Italian Greyhound puppy in GA Brooklyn - A twelve-month old Italian Greyhound puppy in Georgia

Due to a toddler that tends to be too rough with him, Brooklyn is in need of a new home. This guy is blue fawn with white markings and weighs approximately six pounds. He is currently being trained to potty outside, but could also be housetrained to use a litter box if desired. As a puppy, Brooklyn has a high activity level, but loves to cuddle. If you are interested in Brooklyn, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed 11/26/11)

Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Brooklyn to an enthusiastic woman in GA. In addition to his new human, Brooklyn will have the company of two, small, mellow cats and another Italian Greyhound. Brooklyn also has a fenced yard to romp in, and the ability to go to work with his human. Brooklyn was adopted on 11/28/11!

Junior - A nine-year old Italian Greyhound / Miniature Schnauzer in PA

Junior - A nine-year old Italian Greyhound / Miniature Pinscher in PAThis handsome fellow, whose family is moving, is in need of a new home. Junior is housetrained, "goes" outside in an enclosed area, and is accident-free in his current home. He is good with dogs and children, with cats being an unknown. Junior is friendly, loves attention, and, at nine years of age, is still an active dog. When on leash, he would rather run than walk, so will need some training with leash manners. Junior stays in the laundry room when left alone, and travels nicely by car. If you would like a great companion, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed 10/20/11)

Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Junior to a wonderful, dog-experienced woman in PA who was looking for a small, canine companion. Junior was adopted on 11/13/11!

Luciano (Lucci) - A ten-month old Italian Greyhound puppy in DE Luciano (Lucci) - A ten-month old Italian Greyhound puppy in Delaware

This handsome, male Italian Greyound currently resides with a large, active family whose members are not able to provide him with the time and attention that he needs. At only ten-months of age, Lucci is active and loves to run and play, but when done, he enjoys relaxing in his crate or cuddling with a human. He is friendly and outgoing with people, as well as with other dogs. In fact, he has a tendency to be too exuberant when meeting other dogs, so could use some assistance mastering proper canine greeting signals. Lucci also needs to continue working on his housetraining skills; accidents do occur. If you are looking for an athletic canine who loves being with his person (or people), please contact Italian Greyhound Place.  (Listed 9/25/11)

Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Lucci to two, very welcoming men in PA where Lucci has joined two other Italian Greyhounds. Lucci was adopted on 10/16/11!

Kera – A four-year old Miniature Pinscher in NYKera - A four-year old Min Pin in NY

This approximately five pound, sweet girl is in need of a new home - the man to whom Kera was most attached passed away, his wife’s health does not allow her to care for Kera, and the man’s daughter can only have one dog in the home that she currently resides in. Kera is a very loving, playful Min Pin who loves to cuddle, burrow under blankets, play with toys, and run around the house. She is housetrained to use doggy pee pads, but does have some accidents; is good on leash; enjoys the car; is good with other dogs once she knows them (is a bit nervous at first); and is good with cats. When left alone, she should be crated or put in a room where there is nothing for her to mistake as a toy. Kera has recently started barking more than usual at things such as cars making noise, knocks on the door, and unexpected movement. Since Kera responds well to treats, this situation can most likely be improved.  If you are looking for a small companion whom truly enjoys being with her person, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. Additional photos here. (Listed 9/4/11)

Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Kera to a woman in NY who had been looking to add another Min Pin to her family. Kera now has the the companionship of one adult, two teens, one Min Pin, two cats, and a fenced yard to run in. Kera was adopted on 10/10/11!

Kylie - A two-and-one-half year old Italian Greyhound / Chihuahua mix in NY

Welcome to Italian Greyhound Place, Kylie!

Kylie - A Chihuahua / Italian Greyhound mix in New York

Kylie came to Italian Greyhound Place through another rescue organization, and, prior to that, was in a kill shelter. This little girl (8.6 pounds) initially presented with vomiting, bloody diarrhea, and abdominal pain. She was completely vetted, including bloodwork and radiographs, and, with dietary intervention, has been stable for almost two months now. Kylie appears to have food intolerances and will need an adopter willing to accommodate her dietary needs, while monitoring her condition and continuing to determine what food sources she can handle. It is also possible that future veterinarian care or consultation could be needed. Kylie is extremely sweet and, although she will accommodate herself to what is going on, enjoys going for walks, running, and playing. She is in possession of  a strong prey drive, but is learning not to chase squirrels and chipmunks when on a walk. Kylie is housetrained, enjoys traveling in the car, and is friendly with people and other dogs. If you would like a little shadow for a cuddle and exercise companion, and are willing and able to accommodate Kylie's dietary needs, please contact Italian Greyhound Place.  (Listed 9/24/11)

Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have rescued, fostered, and rehomed Kylie to two, wonderful, previous adopters where she has two caring humans and a canine companion previously fostered by Italian Greyhound Place. Kylie was adopted on 9/29/11!
